Spice Trail

Turmeric is known to have been in use in India for thousands of years. Initially it was used as a dyeing agent, but soon it was recognized to have several properties to suit medicinal, cosmetic and culinary purposes. In no time it reached other parts of the world and came to be known as ‘Indian Saffron’ because of its similarities to saffron.

This yellow-coloured spice with its distinct aroma and taste is an essential ingredient in any Indian curry. Turmeric powder is obtained from the root of the plant, a dash of which can give a unique flavour and colour and also add to the curry’s health value.
